I recently attended a fashion show at the Standard Hotel in the downtown area and took the opportunity to snag a few photos of my friends before tearing down my equipment. As a fashion Photographer I love experimenting with light to explore and push the boundaries of taking photos.

As a wedding photographer in the Orange County area, I'm always down at the beach shooting romantic engagements sessions. This weekend was no exception! While we were finishing up a group of young men arrived and lined up along the little jetty and began chanting & praying. It was awesome! I was able to capture this image I hope you enjoy.

Goya to me really means "get off your ass" . So today i did just that & went out looking for fun stuff to photograph. As I came down the street, I saw this old small spanish looking home on this lonely property. As a Orange County wedding photographer, I am used to seeing a quick spot that I like and taking shots there at the spur of the moment. So when I found this beautiful place I felt at home.

as a destination wedding photographer i have the pleasure of traveling quite frequently. i spent the last two weeks in the SF bay area for a pair of weddings and an engagement session. while i was driving down the california coast i made an early morning tea stop in monterey. when i got out of my car i noticed these dramatic shadows across the bricks. my caffeine-deprived self said tea first, but the inner photographer wouldn’t allow it. i quickly grabbed a camera and made this photograph. ten minutes later when i returned with my tea, the shadows had completely moved and all that was left was a faint reminder that photography, more than anything else, is about being present in the moment.

my favorite thing about being a destination wedding photographer is having amazing clients who love photography! earlier this week i did a private photo workshop with one of the brides i'll be shooting later this year (so excited for her destination wedding in lake tahoe!) we focused primarily on the fundamentals of photography, meaning exposure and composition.

we spent a leisurely breakfast talking about the concepts and then spent a few hours shooting around and implementing all the knowledge - there is a lot to take in!

it's so fitting that we mostly shot these bikes -- when we first started talking and i asked jenn if she'd ever taken a photo class before she mentioned that in both high school and college she dabbled in it. photography is just like riding a bike, even if it's been a while it all comes back as soon as you start shooting!

here are a few of my favorite fine art photographs that i shot during the day. again, we were trying to really nail composition and exposure. so all of these photos are straight out of camera with a black and white conversion and just a slight contrast boost. enjoy!

I had a blast last weekend on a trip to the getty center with a few friends. We spent a few hours there and got to check out the lovely architecture and fine art the museum had to offer. As a fine art Photographer I used this time to photograph a few areas of the museum

Mayan Warriors

On a recent trip to Cancun for a destination wedding, We were able to take some time out for ourselves and spent some time at Xcaret one of the ecological parks in the Mayan Riviera region. Being an Orange County wedding photographer, I love details. The details of the warriors masks were beautiful. From the make up art to the beads and feathers. Here are a few of the head pieces that I loved.

my favorite thing about being a destination wedding photographer is getting to travel! in two weeks i'm shooting becca and doug's destination wedding in northern california where becca grew up and this past weekend i shot their destination engagement session in brooklyn where they live. while we were in the park near thier house this image revealed itself to me, i heart this umbrella!

i couldn't leave out one of becca and doug in the park :)

Salk Institute

Here are a few images Efren Beltran took from a recent trip to to the Salk Institute in San Diego. Its definitely a place to consider visiting on your way down to the beach. It is regarded as one of the worlds leading research schools in genetic biology and is considered by some an Architectural Landmark.

as a destination wedding photographer i am always inspired to shoot in new locations. i spent three weeks during this past december traveling through europe and shooting just for myself. as a fine art photojournalist my primary goal is always to make photographs that my clients see as fine art, so shooting for myself means that i have a very difficult client to please! here are a handful of my favorite shots from that trip, these images were made in italy, france and belgium. i love shooting destination weddings because as a fine art photographer i look for beauty and simplicity in my surroundings, being in a new location offers an endless supply of inspiration!

san Juan Capistrano Mission

A couple of weeks ago Miguel Pola and his family went out on a field trip to the San Juan Capistrano Mission . Several Images were captured during the trip But the two that stood out the most were these two. These Images were captured on his Canon Power Shot SD 630 Digital Elph point and shoot camera. Agave Plants

A while back ago, almost 4 years, I was commissioned to photograph agave plants as art work for display. It was something that I wasn't really used to, haven't done still life since my assistant days almost 13 years ago, and I didn't really like it back then either. But seriously, I enjoyed photographing these agave plants and they have received rave reviews. I wanted to see what you all thought of them, as it has since turned into a series of plants to be finished by Jan. 09. I'm not a tree hugger or the like, but it does hurt to cut off the blades (leaves?) when photographing them. Funny huh. lol

Here we go...

A while back we were doing some location scouting in Downtown LA. While walking through some of the run down areas we ran into a few people. Most were homeless people. We started to shoot the breeze with them and found them to be very interesting characters. Miguel Pola realized that they all had one thing in common, a story about why they live the way they do.
